Oregano

Oregano is an aromatic herb widely used to season foods.
Its scientific name is Origanum vulgare and belongs to the Labiatae family of plants.
Among its medicinal properties, is digestive, is also good for problems in the liver and gallbladder, helps to pass gas, colds, coughs, colds and sore throats.
Also in a good herb for diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, diseases of the respiratory tract, improves memory and blood circulation, reduces fever and is very good for menstrual cramps.
You can use oregano in external applications such as compresses, baths, inhalations, and gargle.
This herb is also a very good disinfectant of wounds and ulcers. Oregano is also good for relieving muscle aches, rheumatism, tonsillitis, laryngitis, fatigue or chronic fatigue, insomnia for its sedative properties.

Solar Fixer: Place 5 gr. fresh oregano leaves or 20 gr. of dried leaves in 50 cc. Water. Boil for 5 minutes and let cool. Moisten the skin after sun exposure.

Oregano Lotion: Put 10 gr. dried oregano leaves to 200 cc. cold water. Bring to low heat until boiling. When boil, add 10 cc. White spirit and 1 gr. borax. This lotion acts oregano oily skin, stimulating circulation, helping to close slightly pores.

Thyme

This herb is native to southern Europe and northern Africa.
Thyme is an herb belonging to the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae) plants.
The scientific name of this herb is Thymus vulgaris L.
We can find this medicinal plants whit the following common names: Timo maggiore, Common thyme, Garden Thyme, Thym commun, Thymian, Tomillo común, Tomilho.
The use of this herb is very old, the Egyptians used this plant in the embalming. The Greeks used it in their bathrooms and burned as incense in their temples.
Thyme is a perennial, woody stem of limited height, usually about 30 cm. This medicinal plant living in poor, rocky soils of dry regions. Its leaves are tiny and have aromatic essences.
The flowers of  Thymus vulgaris L. are pink and white, the calyx is reddish and velvety.
The whole plant is used medicinally.
Thyme is indicated as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, stimulant, balsamic, carminative, anthelmintic, diaphoretic and antiseptic.
Thymus vulgaris L. is composed of essential oil, presents mainly thymol, carvacrol, borneol, bornyl acetate, acetate linalínico, linalool, geraniol alpha and beta-pinene, limonene, cymene p-, gamma-terpinene, alpha-terpineol, tannins, oleanolic acid and ursolic , fenilcarboxílicos acids (chlorogenic and caffeic), resins, tannins, among others.
In addition to its medicinal properties, thyme is used as a spice in the kitchen, in perfumery and soap making.

Recipes from this herb:

Infusion: Place 30 gr. Thymus vulgaris L. Dry in 1 liter of boiling water sweeten with sugar or honey. Indicated in cases of colds and sore throats, drinking one or more tablespoons several times a day.

Tea: prepared by pouring a cup of hot water in two tablespoons of minced thyme. You should drink one cup (250 ml) daily. Suitable for cough.

Infections and wounds can be dripped with thyme that has been boiled in water (apply cold or warm).

Peppermint

This herb is native to Central Asia and the Mediterranean.
It is a very versatile herb and there are many varieties of it.
This medicinal plant belongs to the family Labiatae.
In particular we see the species of this herb with the botanical name Mentha x piperita.
Part of this medicinal plant used for medicinal purposes are the leaves and flowers.
This herb is indicated for digestive problems and headaches.
Among the compounds of this herb are: essential oil, menthyl acetate, menthone, and to a lesser extent phellandrene, pinene, Piperitone, pulegone, cineol, viridoflorol, menthofuran, Isomenthone, sabinene, and esters of menthol.
Peppermint is an herb that grows in all climates, but prefers slightly moist soil, and be in the semi-shade.
This medicinal plant can grow to up to 80 cm.
The mint leaves are ovate, petiolate, dentate.
This herb has a strong aroma, fresh, sweet, spicy and refreshing.
It should not take this medicinal plant at night because it causes insomnia.
Peppermint can be used either fresh or dried.
The medicinal properties of this herb are:  good for bad breath, gingivitis inflammation, anti-nausea, intestinal spasms, promotes sweating, asthma, stimulates the uterus, tranquilizer, insect repellent and fleas, against the cold, among others.
Peppermint can be combined with other herbs such as basil, parsley, ginger, cumin, cloves, etc..
In the kitchen is used as the herb dressing: vegetables, meats, seasoning sauces, fruits and even chocolate, among many others.

Recipes from this medicinal plant:

Infusion: The water boiled for 2 minutes with a handful (to taste) dried or fresh leaves of this herb, is removed from heat and let stand 5 minutes. It can be sweetened with honey.

Infusion for digestive problems: Boil water for 10 minutes with 5 gr. fresh mint leaves, and then left to rest. They take 2 cups per day after meals.
